About this Program:
This program is designed to meet the interest and needs of those providing psychotherapy in any setting, private practice or within an agency, who are seeking to integrate the process of Mindfulness into their work as well as in their personal lives.
The program is open to anyone holding a state licensure including: psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counselors or those holding other licensures allowing the practice of psychotherapy (e.g. M.D.). With approval, a graduate student in one of these fields in their final year of coursework may participate.
Cultivating ones personal practice of mindfulness allows movement into a rich spaciousness that allows one to sit with the discomforts associated with working with others in pain. This openness not only lessens the therapist’s discomfort, it encourages the client to open to a deeper healing space. Through cultivating the practice of Mindfulness, reactivity gradually falls away and is replaced by loving patience and equanimity toward ourselves and others.
This 6 week group experience will be an interactive one, limited to 10 participants and will provide:
- an intellectual understanding of the application of Mindfulness to psychotherapy through exploration of the professional literature on the application and effectiveness of mindfulness with a variety of common mental health issues including: depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, chronic pain. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (a standardized 8-week program) as an adjunct to psychotherapy will also be explored. Learn more about Mindfulness and MBSR
- an experiential understanding of Mindfulness through a variety of meditation practices and exercises
- the cultivation of the complimentary skills of Mindfulness and concentration that are the foundation of this practice
- practical suggestions for the use this powerful process with specific client populations and treatment issues
- a safe setting for processing issues related to current and on-going cases
Requirements
The primary requirement is a license to practice psychotherapy (or being in training to obtain this licensure), a genuine interest in mindfulness combined with a commitment to face the energies that may arise as we begin to still the mind and body and open to the unfolding of our moment-to-moment experience.
In choosing to participate in this program, you will be asked to:
- make a commitment to attend all sessions if possible and be open, honest and supportive in the group process, holding a space of respect for other participants
- make full payment before the program begins or arrange a payment plan in advance to cover the program fees (credit cards accepted)
Some things that will help ensure this process will be effective for you include (but are not requirements of participation):
- completion of an 8-week MBSR Program (or Home Study Course) would be ideal
- an established sitting meditation practice or a interest and commitment to have one
The Cost of the Program
The fee for this six-week program is on a sliding scale based upon ability to pay and ranges from $300 to $600. You set your own fee, no questions asked. Costs include three 45 minute training CDs (i.e. Body Scan, Guided Sitting Meditation and Guided Opening Meditation) and reading materials.
It is my sincere hope that any healing professional interested in participating in this program can do so regardless of their ability to pay. Therefore, I have established a fund for partial scholarships. If you would like to be considered for a partial scholarship or if feel moved to contribute to this fund, please let me know.
