Weds., Sept 8, 9:30 am to Noon at Lotus Room Yoga Studio, South Tampa
The practice of mindfulness meditation has many fruits. Perhaps those most closely related to effective emotional and psychological healing are greater clarity and the ability to sit with the arising of discomfort. These fruits, along with the cultivation of disciplined compassion, allow sensitive material to rise into awareness where it can be acknowledged, processed and released. Because energy from this repressed, unconscious material can fuel reactive, compulsive processes, its release can, in turn, lead to greater freedom from depression, anxiety and general discomfort. As in Vipassana meditation, one does not need to suppress or express these energies or the images, impressions and memories underlying them. Rather, simply opening to them with disciplined, compassionate observation allows them to move through, leaving a sense of spaciousness and vital energy.
This workshop is an introduction to mindfulness meditation and offers an outline of how meditation can be applied to emotional healing work. It will also provide an overview of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness Based Group Psychotherapy programs.
